Crazier and Crazier

It seems there is no limit on the number of crazy things we see these days

Earlier this year a task force established by Governor Gavin Newson recommended that California pay reparations amounting to about $1.5 million to every eligible African American.

Some economic estimates put the cost at $800 billion---2.5 times the annual budget of the state.

It does not seem to matter that California was admitted to the United States in 1850 with the express proviso that it be a "free state" and the California Constitution expressly prohibited slavery from the  beginning of existence as a state.

Never mind that California is facing a $32 billion budget deficit for the current fiscal year.

Where exactly is the money going to come from to pay the reparations?

In addition to the reparations, the task force on reparations is now also calling for any delinquent child support and interest on the back payments for Black residents of the state be eliminated.

In its final report released last week, the group claimed “discriminatory” laws “have torn African American families apart,” and that one effect of that is the “harms” caused by “the disproportionate amount of African Americans who are burdened with child support debt.”

The nearly 1,100-page document stated that black Californians represent a larger percentage of those who owe child support debt than their proportion of the state’s population.

"Discriminatory laws have torn African American families apart"?

65% of the births of African American children in California are to unwed mothers.

This compares to 38% in the state overall.

The comparable percent for Whites is 23% and for Asians is 14%.

Why are African Americans disproportionately burdened with child support debt?

Could it be because they are disproportionately having babies out of wedlock which necessitates the child support?

What discriminatory laws have been responsible for this?

In the meantime, the task force wants the legislature to pass a law to cancel a debt that is legally and morally due (child support) while also asking taxpayers to pay an imaginary debt that is neither legally or morally supported (reparations).

How does anyone think this will work out well?

Crazy.

The same Reparation Task Force report is also asking the California legislature to ban the arrest and prosecution of individuals for various public disorder offenses such as public intoxication, disorderly conduct and public urination.

It is stated in the report that African Americans are also disproportionately impacted by the policing of these offenses.

The report suggests that anyone arrested on these charges should have the right to sue for damages or automatically receive a damages payout.

The reason for this is due to slavery dating back 170 years ago?

Even crazier.

Then there is this.

Block the sun?

Seriously?

The White House has opened the door to an audacious plan to block sunlight from hitting the surface of the Earth in a bid to halt global warming.

Despite some scientists warning the effort could have untold side effects from altering the chemical makeup of the atmosphere, President Joe Biden's administration have admitted they're open to the idea, which has never been attempted before.

In a report released Friday by the White House, officials suggested limiting sunlight to rapidly cool the planet, a process known as solar radiation modification (SRM).

What I found particularly interesting was how SRM might be accomplished.

One method would be to significantly increase the amount of aerosols in the stratosphere, which would reflect the sun's rays from the planet.

I am old enough to remember when we were told that we had to limit the use of aerosols because their use was destroying the ozone layer around the earth.

For example, here is an article on the dangers to our ozone layer and climate due to the use of aerosols that was published in 1976.

Time magazine did cover stories on the vanishing ozone layer and the hole in the atmosphere that was appearing over Antarctica.

This cover was from 1992.

All of this led to limiting or banning the use of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) which is the primary chemical ingredient used in aerosol sprays.

197 countries around the world now enforce a ban on the use of CFC's.

Aerosols were damaging the ozone layer and accelerating climate change 30 years ago but releasing aerosols are now being considered to limit global warming?

Crazy does not begin to describe where we are.

  1. I understand the nature of man is sinful so evil I expect; but I never envisioned living in a Twilight Zone reality show of ever increasing wierdness.
